Tips to Parents of New Drivers

Reality - You can not control all of the conditions your new driver will face, but you can set standards and expectations that will limit the risks.

  1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE
  2. Invest in driver training from a reputable organization
  3. Commit to a practice schedule
  4. Keep your cool during practice sessions
  5. Introduce privileges gradually
  6. Plan ahead for challenges. A parent-teen driving contract is a good line of defense.
  7. Take a refresher course yourself.
  8. Discuss who will pay for: gas, insurance, and repairs.
